Money Going to Mexico Is Not Helping the U.S.
What is missing from your report is that most of the Mexicans who sent this astronomical number of dollars to Mexico more likely than not are illegal immigrants who do not pay taxes but receive social services and medical services, and whose kids go to our schools (“Mexicans in U.S. Send Record $13.3 Billion Back Home, Propping Up Weak Economy,” Jan. 31).
On top of that, $13.3 billion was not put back into our economy but supported Mexico’s economy. Mexican President Vicente Fox has no incentive to reform his economy when he enjoys the benefits of ours.
