Buck Should Still Stop at the Top
Re “Panel Selected to Investigate Iraq Arms Data,” Feb. 7: Harry Truman had a small sign on his desk in the White House that read, “The Buck Stops Here.” Now that President Bush has his independent commission to “look into” the failures of the intelligence community in the days leading up to “Iraq War II,” but not into his own failures, someone should put a small sign on his desk in the White House that reads, “The Buck Stops Anyplace but Here.”
The whole world knows who’s responsible for the bloody mess we now find ourselves in in Iraq. It has precious little to do with the performance of the intelligence community -- good, bad or indifferent.
