UC and Livermore Lab Settle Federal Dispute

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and University of California will pay $3.9 million to settle a dispute with the U.S. Justice Department.
The UC-run nuclear weapons design lab had been fined for overcharging the federal government in the mid-1990s.
The U.S. Energy Department has announced its intention to put the contracts to manage all three national labs -- Livermore, Los Alamos and Lawrence Berkeley -- up for competitive bidding.
