Owners of the 114-year-old carousel in Seaport Village plan to auction the relic to the highest bidder to pay taxes and bolster their cash reserves.
The Broadway Flying Horse Carousel, whose 175-pipe organ, 40 horses and three dogs and goats have entertained tourists at the harbor site since 1980, will be sold from the estate of the late Morris Taubman, who built Seaport Village.
The area’s current operator, GMS Realty, is interested in buying the carousel, Senior Vice President Bruce Walton said. The county may also consider bidding on the carousel for use in Old Town’s Heritage Park, Supervisor Ron Roberts said.
The auction is scheduled for April 17 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
