Firefighters Seek Share of Tax Revenue
The county’s largest firefighters’ union vowed Thursday to promote a ballot initiative that would give fire departments a share of the money from Prop. 172, a half-cent sales tax increase.
County firefighters have complained that the Board of Supervisors has allocated 80% of the money from the 10-year-old tax increase to the Sheriff’s Department and 20% to the district attorney’s office.
The president of the Orange County Professional Firefighters Assn. said his group would put an initiative on the November ballot to change that.
