Reward Offered Over Shooting of Sea Lion
The National Marine Fisheries Service is offering a reward for information about the shooting of a California sea lion found near Los Banos this week.
The agency, a branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, announced Thursday that it would pay a $1,000 reward for information leading to a prosecution and conviction in the case.
People convicted of violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act could face civil penalties of as much as $12,000 or criminal fines of as much as $20,000, plus jail time, said Norm Simons, a special agent with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the service at (800) 853-1964.
