International Olympic Committee Vice President Kim Un-yong has been indicted on charges of taking bribes and embezzling funds from South Korean sports organizations, a prosecution official said Friday.

Kim was indicted Thursday, prosecution spokesman Kook Min-soo said. But he could not provide details of the charges against the 72-year-old Kim, who was arrested Jan. 28.

The IOC executive board provisionally stripped Kim of all his Olympic duties on Jan. 23 pending investigations by South Korean authorities and the IOC ethics commission.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said Kim was charged with embezzling $3.28 million from the World Taekwondo Federation, the World Taekwondo Headquarters that issues taekwondo credentials and other sports organizations.

Kim also is accused of receiving bribes of $692,000 from businesses and a sports official in return for favors, Yonhap said, quoting unidentified prosecution sources.
