Anaheim Picking Its Police Chief
From a Times Staff Writer
The San Diego Police Department’s second in command may be Anaheim’s new chief if his hiring is approved Tuesday by the City Council. City Manager David Morgan announced Thursday that he would recommend John W. Welter to replace retired Chief Roger Baker.
Welter, San Diego’s executive assistant chief of police, is a 33-year department veteran.
If hired, Welter will oversee Anaheim’s 589-member department.
Baker announced his retirement in October and recently became chief in Des Moines, Wash.
