Federal Official Backs Border-Fence Additions

A top official with the federal Department of Homeland Security said Thursday that the government still supports plans to add two fences along an ecologically fragile three-mile stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border.
The California Coastal Commission last week refused to issue a permit for the project.
Asa Hutchinson, undersecretary for border and transportation security in the department, said the fence is necessary to control entry to the country.
