Newborn Elephant Gets Name Suggested by King

The male African elephant calf born Monday at the Wild Animal Park has been given a name suggested by the king of Swaziland: Vus’musi, (pronounced vus-moo-see), which means “to build a family” in the Siswati language.
The 228-pound calf was born to one of the seven elephants imported to the park from Swaziland last summer to help reverse the population decline among African elephants in North American zoos. The seven had been slated for death in their native country because of overpopulation there, Wild Animal Park officials said.
The birth was the first of an African elephant at the park in two decades.
