Crowds Cheer King as He Visits Quake Victims
Despite widespread public anger over the speed of the official response to Tuesday’s large earthquake, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI won an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of survivors as he toured the hard-hit village of Al Hoceima.
The toll rose to 572 after a baby girl died of head injuries.
The king chatted with staff members and victims at a hospital, then walked around the village. He shook hands with members of a crowd chanting “Long Live King Mohammed VI!” Officials said he would spend four days “under the same conditions” as survivors.
