Rental home, sweet rental home

As the mother of 2- and 4-year-old boys, I found much to agree with in Mary McNamara’s article “The Real Secret to a Civilized Vacation” [Kids on Board, Feb. 15]. The freedom from worry over meals, laundry and claustrophobia well offsets the lack of daily maid service.

She did, however, leave out a compelling reason for a vacation home rental: the ease of maintaining an infant or toddler’s nap routine. During our week in a Palm Springs vacation home, my baby slept in a quiet, air-conditioned room while my husband and I, equipped with baby monitor, relaxed at the pool. At a hotel, those poolside tanning hours (also known as my baby’s afternoon nap) are not an option.
