Make Bus Riders Pay

Share

Re “For MTA, the Bucks Start Here,” Jan. 13: The route to compliance with special master Donald Bliss’ order to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to buy more buses is clear: Raise bus fares. Doing so will raise more revenue and reduce ridership, thereby reducing overcrowding. If the special master does not like this approach, then let him come up with $40 million per year. The taxpayers cannot be expected to subsidize transit without limit.
