2 Jurors Sentenced Over Bribes in Cocaine Trial

Two jurors were sentenced to five years in federal prison for taking bribes to acquit two cocaine kingpins in 1996.

Gloria Alba pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for taking less than $300,000 of a promised $1 million to vote for acquittal at the trial of Sal Magluta and Willy Falcon. Maria Penalver pleaded guilty to conspiracy for taking about $20,000.

Magluta and Falcon were accused of making $2 billion by smuggling 78 tons of cocaine. Three jurors in all were corrupted: The foreman is serving a 17-year sentence for taking a $500,000 bribe.
