Coroner Says Arson Led to 6 Deaths in High-Rise

Arson is the only plausible explanation for a fire at a downtown Chicago government high-rise that killed six people, coroner Edmund Donoghue said. He ruled that the deaths were homicides caused by carbon monoxide inhalation from smoke and soot in the Oct. 17 fire in the Cook County Administration Building.
Donoghue said there was “no plausible reason” besides arson for traces of gasoline found in the 12th-floor storage closet where the fire started.
