$1 Million to Save a Tree Shows Skewed Priorities

Share

Re “ ‘Old Glory’ Leaves Home for New Digs,” Jan. 21: The focus on a tree in Santa Clarita is a hallmark of a form of paganism that only the ancient Romans could match. To spend $1 million to move a tree, let alone the celebrity and environmental focus prior to this move, is disgusting. One million dollars would feed thousands of homeless at the Los Angeles Mission; it could put clothes on the backs of the poorest of the poor in our land or abroad; it could help educate the countless inner-city children that our public education system has forgotten.

This is not to endorse developers crushing all of nature in pursuit of profit, but just a sanity check to people who seem to have lost all sense of sanity. It’s just a tree -- help people instead.
