Thirty-five people, including members of the Mexican Mafia, have been indicted on 52 felony charges involving drugs, weapons and violence, prosecutors announced Friday.

Among those indicted by a county grand jury was the purported leader of the Mexican Mafia in San Diego, Jose Alberto Marquez, who was arrested in Tijuana in November by Mexican authorities.

The indictments came after an eight-month investigation. The defendants allegedly are involved in the widespread distribution of methamphetamine smuggled from Mexico.
