Like the other three Marines killed, Privette served in Iraq and was training for a six-month deployment in the Persian Gulf region with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Privette was a helicopter crew chief.

Their UH-N1 Huey helicopter crashed in the isolated Talega Canyon. The crash is under investigation.
