* Newhall Land & Farming Co., the developer of the 21,000-home Newhall Ranch project, was formally sold to Florida-based housing giant Lennar Corp. and a partner corporation. The $990-million sale was approved Thursday in a 4-1 vote by the California Public Utilities Commission.

* Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. said fourth-quarter income rose to $73.2 million, or 17 cents a share, from $2.7 million, or 1 cent, a year earlier. Profit excluding charges was 29 cents a share, matching the average Wall Street estimate. Revenue, which benefited from a weak dollar, jumped 36% to $1.95 billion from $1.43 billion a year ago.

* Top video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. posted net income of $392.3 million, or $1.26 a share, up from $250.2 million, or 85 cents, a year earlier. Revenue in the period ended Dec. 31 rose to $1.48 billion from $1.23 billion.

* Flextronics International Ltd., the world’s largest maker of electronics for other companies, had a third-quarter profit of $21.4 million, or 4 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $6.48 million, or 1 cent, a year earlier. Sales rose 7.8% to $4.15 billion.

* Visx Inc. said it had a fourth-quarter profit of $8.81 million as doctors switched to the new version of the company’s laser eye-surgery device. Net income was 17 cents a share, reversing a year-earlier loss of $1.55 million, or 3 cents. Sales increased 5.7% to $38.2 million.
