Northrop on 2 Teams Vying for Contract

Northrop Grumman Corp. said it would compete on two teams pursuing an Air Force contract to build space-based radar to track ground targets.

Northrop will lead its own team, which includes Boeing Co. and Raytheon Co. L.A.-based Northrop also will contribute its radar and communications technology to a rival bid by Lockheed Martin Corp.

The U.S. wants to set up a group of high-resolution satellites for real-time intelligence and tracking of mobile targets such as troops and vehicles. The system is estimated to cost $8.9 billion.
