From Times Wire Reports

Right-wing paramilitary fighters freed an abducted former Colombian senator, removing a major obstacle to peace talks with the government.

Former Sen. Jose Eduardo Gnecco was released near the coastal city of Santa Marta, 465 miles north of the capital, Bogota, regional police chief Col. Oscar Gamboa said. Masked gunmen abducted Gnecco from a Caribbean highway Sunday.

A powerful right-wing warlord, Rodrigo Tovar, had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping but in a communique later said it was a mistake and apologized for any damage inflicted on the peace process.
