General Mills Inc., the second-largest U.S. cereal maker, said fiscal fourth-quarter profit climbed 24% as health-conscious consumers bought more products such as Yoplait yogurt and fruit snacks.

Net income rose to $278 million, or 72 cents a share, from $225 million, or 59 cents, a year earlier, Minneapolis-based General Mills said. Sales rose 9.5% to $2.79 billion. The company said earnings this year might be less than analysts expected because of rising commodity costs.

Shares of General Mills rose $1.41 to $47.53 on the NYSE.
