A Clue in FBI Hunt for Source of Anthrax Mail

From Times Wire Reports

In a possible break for the FBI’s investigation of anthrax-laced letters sent in 2001, scientists have discovered that the mailed anthrax was a mix of two slightly different samples, giving the bacteria a distinct signature that might be easier match with a source, said two nongovernment experts who had been told of the finding.

The pattern discovery that bacteria taken from the letters, which killed five people, was made at least a year ago, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The revelation comes as the FBI is due Tuesday to give a Washington judge a secret progress report on the investigation.
