Four Cult Members Held in ’95 Attack on Official

Four members of a Japanese doomsday cult were arrested on allegations of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of the national police chief nine years ago, authorities said.
Takaji Kunimatsu was shot and seriously wounded while investigating Aum Supreme Truth, the cult later held responsible for a nerve gas attack on Japan’s subway system that killed 12 people and injured thousands. He was wounded 10 days after the gassing in March 1995.
The suspects include Toshiyuki Kosugi, 39, who was a police officer at the time of the attack.
