Why the Angels Won’t Fly in L.A.

So, Angel owner Arte Moreno wants to change his team name to the Los Angeles Angels as a marketing ploy to appeal to all of Southern California. Sorry, Arte, but there is only one baseball team in Los Angeles, the Dodgers, and we’re not buying your product.

“Los Angeles” fans and “Anaheim” fans are different people.

Dodger fans live in historic houses in landmark neighborhoods. Angel fans live in tract housing, in cookie-cutter neighborhoods. We’re Venice Beach and Olvera Street. They’re Knott’s Berry Farm and Fashion Island. We’re classic, they’re “modern.”

So stick with Anaheim, Arte. Or feel free to call yourselves the Orange County Angels. That’s it, The O.C. Angels. Perfect.
