Accused General Calls Extradition Bid Treason
One of four Serb generals charged with war crimes in Kosovo said in a television appearance that turning him over to the Netherlands-based U.N. tribunal would be an act of treason.
Gen. Vladimir Lazarevic led troops in the 1999 Kosovo campaign in which nearly 10,000 Kosovo Albanians were killed.
In an interview on Serbia’s BK TV, he said his extradition or that of the other three generals “would be treasonous, it would betray the memory of fallen Serbs and would provide amnesty for all war crimes committed against Serbs.”
