U.S. Operation Aims to Keep Election on Track

Thousands of American troops have begun an operation to prevent militants from derailing Afghanistan’s presidential election, set for Oct. 9, the top U.S. commander in Kabul said.
Army Lt. Gen. David Barno said the operation contains enough “offensive punch” to keep militants off balance and could see an increase in targeted, intelligence-driven raids. He gave no specifics.
