This Hollywood Hills house is an example of what can be done to make the most of a relatively small lot on a steep ridge.
Hodgetts & Fung designed the 2,000-square-foot hillside home in 1990 and searched for an inexpensive but elegant look.
The firm wanted to honor some of the past architects of Hollywood Hills homes. The house echoes some of the work of Rudolf Schindler and Richard Neutra. It takes advantage of indoor-outdoor living through its patios, indoor and outdoor terraces, and mountain, canyon and treetop views.
At the same time, its contemporary style is accented by geometric shapes, unusual colors and the use of glass, metal, wood and concrete in construction.
About the owner: Russ Peterson, a software sales executive in Los Angeles, wants to sell the home to pursue his interest in renovating a midcentury architectural house also in the Hollywood Hills.

Size: The house has three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms in about 2,000 square feet. The lot size is 5,000 square feet.
