An explosion at an eastern Ukrainian coal mine has killed at least 25 miners, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported. The blast, apparently caused by methane, hit about 1,800 feet below ground, it said, citing Ukrainian mine authorities.
Officials said 48 miners were changing shifts when the explosion occurred. Twelve managed to escape, Itar-Tass said, and the rest were being sought.
