* Electronic Arts Inc. agreed to buy Criterion Software Group Ltd. for its RenderWare technology, which is used to run a quarter of all video games worldwide. Terms were not disclosed.

* Terra Networks, the Internet unit of Telefonica, said it would sell its Lycos Inc. unit for a fraction of the $6.5 billion paid for the websites in 2000. Terra agreed to sell Lycos for $95 million to $115 million, the Barcelona-based company said. The company didn’t identify the possible buyer.

* Tenet Healthcare Corp. said Vice Chairman Barry P. Schochet would resign at the end of the year, after more than 25 years with the company, to “pursue new opportunities in healthcare investments.”

* French drug maker Sanofi-Synthelabo won U.S. antitrust clearance to complete its $64-billion acquisition of rival Aventis. The Federal Trade Commission said it had accepted a number of concessions to resolve antitrust concerns.

* ArcLight Capital Partners has bought stakes in 10 California power plants from John Hancock Life Insurance Co. for $28 million.
