Myra Schwartz, 88; Author of Many Travel Guides and Cookbooks

Myra Waldo Schwartz, a prolific travel writer and cookbook author, died Sunday in her sleep at her home in Beverly Hills, according to her sister, Naomi Holtzman. She was 88.

Among her cookbooks were “The Complete Round-the-World Cookbook” (1954), “The Art of South American Cookery” (1961) and “Classic Cuisines” (1984). Her travel guides, published from 1960 to 1981, included guides for Europe, South America, the South Pacific and Japan.

Schwartz also wrote a column for the Los Angeles Times travel section during the early 1980s and for a time had a radio show on food on New York’s WCBS-AM (88) and was a food editor of the Baltimore Sun’s This Week magazine.
