Man Sentenced in 1978 Killings of 2 Hitchhikers
Almost 26 years after a brother and sister from Canoga Park were murdered while hitchhiking home from Las Vegas, William Floyd Zamistil was sentenced to two 25-years-to-life prison terms Tuesday for killing the pair.
Zamistil, 52, pleaded guilty Friday to the 1978 slayings of Jacqueline and Malcolm Bradshaw. The San Bernardino County district attorney’s office, which had originally sought the death penalty, accepted Zamistil’s plea with the blessing of the Bradshaw’s mother, Deputy Dist. Atty. Cheryl Kersey said.
On Friday, Zamistil will be sent back to Wisconsin, where he is serving a life term on another murder conviction. He’s up for parole in March 2005, Kersey said, but if he were to win release in Wisconsin, he would be returned to California to complete the prison sentence in the Bradshaw slayings.
