From Times Wire Reports
The nation’s mail carriers set a food-collection record, picking up nearly 70.9 million pounds of donations this year.
The National Assn. of Letter Carriers said that donations were up 10 million pounds from 2003. The food donations are turned over to local food banks, pantries and shelters in the communities where they are collected.
The May 8 collection covered more than 10,000 cities and towns in every state.
