U.N. Plays Down Reports of Rebel Move

United Nations officials played down suspicions that renegade troops who seized the town of Bukavu last week were moving toward a second city in eastern Congo, after a reconnaissance mission found no sign of the rebels.
U.N. peacekeepers took over control of Bukavu on Friday.
Reports that former rebel soldiers loyal to Gen. Laurent Nkunda, who overran the town last week, were advancing in three directions had raised fears that they planned to seize Walikale, northwest of Bukavu.
