The song is still the same

Hollywood sweethearts Marty and Elayne Roberts celebrated their 23rd anniversary of rockin’ the Dresden Lounge on May 31. And on the same night, the Los Feliz restaurant and nightclub celebrated its 50th birthday. The beloved jazz duo, who are currently being filmed each week for a documentary special, still have many admirers. Among their current crop of fans are Diane Keaton, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Sandra Bullock, who recently brought in a gaggle of friends for a night of rockin’ with the Robertses. On a sad note, venerable Dresden owner Carl Ferraro is ailing, and his son Jimmy has taken over the club. Join me in giving Carl a collective thanks and wish him well.

About to pop up downtown

Scenesters got a sneak peek at Golden Gopher on Saturday at co-owner Marc Smith’s birthday bash. The downtown bar, at 8th and Hill streets, is muy fabuloso: Think rock ‘n’ roll baroque with a Liberace twist, or what Smith’s partner Cedd Moses likes to call “Laura Ashley on acid.” To be sure, designer Ricki Kline knocked himself out -- we counted at least three chandeliers in the ladies’ room. Nothing like delicate lighting when reapplying the lipstick. Such barkeeps as Lava owner Michelle Marini, Grace owners Neil and Amy Frasier and Cobras & Matadors head honcho Steven Arroyo were on hand to wish Smith well. The Golden Gopher is set to make its official debut next week. Go-pher broke, boys.
