Advanced Micro Devices Inc. plans next year to sell microchips with the equivalent of two microprocessors in one, joining archrival Intel Corp. in embracing the technology.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based firm said it planned to offer so-called dual-core chips for data-serving business computers in the middle of next year, and for high-end home computers in the second half of next year.

Dual-core technology allows more powerful computing when more than one process is running.

Shares of AMD fell 60 cents to $15.15 on the New York Stock Exchange, and Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel fell 65 cents to $27.99 on Nasdaq.
