From Times Wire Reports

Gov. John G. Rowland’s wife tried to pay for renovations at a family cottage four years after the work was done -- even though aides to the governor had already settled the $5,680 bill, a contractor told a legislative impeachment panel in Hartford.

“I interpreted it as -- um -- a way to -- I hate to use this word -- cover up that someone else paid,” heating contractor Christopher Link told the House Select Committee of Inquiry.

The third-term Republican is being investigated for gifts he received from wealthy friends and businessmen who received millions of dollars in state contracts.
