Police Seeking Man in Jammed-ATM Scam
Police are searching for a man wanted in a series of scams in Orange and Los Angeles counties in which he tampers with ATMs, then withdraws money from customers’ accounts.
The thief has targeted customers at banks on Culver Drive, said Police Lt. Jeff Love.
Love said the man alters the ATM with plastic objects or tape. After a customer inserts a bank card, the monitor appears to shut down and the card jams. The man then tells the victim to enter a PIN and press cancel.
Authorities said the thief watches as the victim enters a PIN; he then walks away but returns after the victim leaves to retrieve the stuck card.
