Restored -- in time for the soiree
There are two things the seller of this Hancock Park home loves to do, and he has done them both with his property.
First, Michael Keegan loves to entertain, and that doesn’t mean just having a few friends to dinner. He held a fundraiser in May for presidential candidate John F. Kerry that resulted in Keegan having more than 360 people milling around in the back garden, which adjoins the Canadian consulate.
Keegan also loves to renovate houses. He redid this one, his sixth, restoring the gated Mediterranean to its 1924 elegance. Keegan is now redoing a beach house south of Oxnard and is in escrow to buy a Fillmore church that was turned into a home, which he will refurbish after he “listens to its bones for a while,” he said.
He is in no hurry. He redoes homes for his own enjoyment, Keegan said, although he describes himself as an investor. The first house he restored was one in which he lived for 11 years.
Keegan is also a collector of American pottery and sterling silver, and he was the executive in charge of production for the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes.”
About this house: Most of the houses Keegan has renovated have been Mediterraneans, including this one, and he has become something of an expert on the style. He maintains a collection of old fixtures, lights and plumbing parts.
