Actxecutive Takes Next Step

Share

Horses who began their career at Calder Race Course in Florida have done well after shipping to California.

King Robyn, Imperialism and Twice As Bad are three examples of thoroughbreds who won stakes races after coming west after being purchased privately and given to new trainers.

Actxecutive, a 2-year-old son of Noactor, will try to do the same as he debuts for owner Jim McIngvale and trainer Bob Baffert in today’s $75,000 Haggin Stakes at Hollywood Park.

In his bow for trainer David Vivian on May 31 in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race at Calder, the Florida-bred quickly opened up on his nine rivals and wound up winning by 10 1/2 lengths in a solid 52 2/5.

Since joining the Baffert barn, Actxecutive worked in 59 flat six days ago at Santa Anita. He will be ridden in the Haggin by Victor Espinoza.

Race of the day: Ninebanks, who has won four of 11 on the Bay Meadows turf course, is among eight older horses set to go 1 1/16 miles in the $55,000 Foster City Handicap, the closing day feature for the meet. Ron Warren Jr. will ride the 6-year-old Smokester gelding.

One for the road: Havana should get a good trip from just off the pace and could be along in time in Bay Meadows’ eighth, a $40,000 claimer at six furlongs. The 7-year-old is reunited with jockey Dennis Carr and they won when they last collaborated on April 11. Havana, who has won three of 12, goes from the rail to the outside post today.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Actxecutive in the third, Cruisin Man, Royal Footage, Boston Shuttle and Furtivo in the fourth and R McLennen, All The Boys and Astarak in the fifth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 1/105. Money: Previous day/meet total: $3/$593.80. Total money bet: $758.
