Quick Start to Pick Six?

Share

Those looking for a single in today’s pick six at Hollywood Park, which has a carry-over of $178,464, might sink or swim in the first leg.

Quick Nip, a 5-year-old Whiskey Wisdom mare, enters the $16,000 claimer for older fillies and mares on a roll. She won two in a row in May and is stepped up a notch after having been claimed by co-owner and trainer Mark Glatt.

After being away for more than nine months, Quick Nip was beaten in her first five starts of 2004 but has come to life in her last pair. She won by 2 1/2 lengths against $10,000 claimers on May 14, then returned 16 days later and won against $12,500 foes.

Today’s distance of six furlongs works in her favor. She has won six of seven at the distance. Apprentice Alex Bisono will ride her against Senfully Easy, Julie’s Go Baby Go, Zam Zam, O Nectar, Plus Three and Shes A Freebie.

The other races in the pick six include a $47,000 allowance for Cal-breds, a $50,000 claimer for older horses, an optional claimer at a mile on the grass, a maiden route on the turf and a $40,000 maiden claimer for 2-year-olds.

Race of the day: Kitty Knight, overmatched in a pair of Grade II races, drops into a softer spot in today’s fifth at Belmont Park. Jorge Chavez will ride the 4-year-old Capote filly for trainer Allen Jerkens in the $56,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

One for the road: Watrals Lady Hanne looks like a possible single in the pick four at Belmont Park. She will be tough to beat if she comes close to duplicating her most recent effort in today’s sixth, a $44,000 allowance at a mile on the turf. Jean-Luc Samyn will ride the 5-year-old Dixie Brass mare for trainer John Morrison.

Exotically speaking: A pick all, using She Roves in the first, the Concert Goer entry in the second, Quick Nip in the third, Damar Wayne in the fourth, Minister Blair and Raise The Bar in the fifth, Ulloa, Islander and Dauphin in the sixth, Tronare in the seventh and Loren V., Aizarunner and Riley’s Life in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/107. Money: Previous day/meet total: $27.60/$621.40. Total money bet: $776.
