Isn’t unselfish sanity a bit overrated?
Outdoor enthusiasts who go it alone (“Why Ditch the Crowd?” Feb. 24) may be brave and self-reliant, but they’re also selfish. They view the wilderness as a chance to challenge themselves, scorning safety measures. Adventuring with a partner may not be as big a rush, but anyone who’s not an overgrown adolescent will agree it’s the only sane way to experience the outdoors.
