Court Temporarily Halts Planned Garage
Opponents of a garage planned for underneath the Music Concourse at Golden Gate Park have won a temporary restraining order in state court, halting the $50-million project.
On Monday, a San Francisco Superior Court judge scheduled a hearing for Friday to decide if he should halt construction permanently.
Opponents led by San Francisco resident Katherine Roberts said the Golden Gate Park Concourse Authority, which city voters created in 1998 to oversee garage construction, had violated several guidelines in the initiative, such as granting control over the construction project to a nonprofit group and locating one garage entrance inside the park.
