U.S. military cargo planes have been delivering food and other supplies to Chad’s army as it fights Islamic militants near its border with Niger, and U.S. aircraft have helped track the militants, officials said. The Chadian government said it had killed 43 members of the insurgent group.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher identified the militant group as the Salafist Group for Call and Combat. He congratulated Chad on its success and said no U.S. forces directly participated in the conflict.
