Attorney General Sends Gay Marriages to Court

The state attorney general said banning gay marriage probably violated Oregon’s Constitution, in effect placing the issue in the hands of the state’s highest court.
Hardy Myers’ nonbinding written opinion also says that state law forbids counties from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, as Multnomah County has been doing since last week in Portland.
But the state will not try to stop the county, meaning Portland apparently is the only city in the nation where gay couples can get married.
