A memorial service is scheduled Sunday for Chris Hill of Moorpark, an Army gunner who was killed last week in Iraq.
Hill, 26, a graduate of Moorpark High School, was formerly stationed in Korea, then served as a member of the military honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery. After a brief stint in the reserves, he reenlisted and was sent to Iraq last fall.
He died Thursday after a Humvee convoy in which he was traveling apparently ran over a landmine.
Hill’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Independent Bible Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. He will be buried at Crown Memorial Park in Pineville, N.C.
The family will hold a public memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday at Holy Cross Church, 13955 Peach Hill Road, Moorpark. A reception will follow at the church hall, according to Hill’s brother, Ryan.
Chris Hill was the oldest son of Ken and Adrienne Hill of Moorpark. In addition to his parents and brother, Hill is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and the couple’s 1-year-old daughter, Cierra, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, April Samprone, and her family of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
