Mortars Kill Soldier, Marine
BAGHDAD — A U.S. soldier and a Marine were killed Wednesday in separate mortar attacks in Iraq, the military said.
In one of the incidents, the soldier was killed and six were wounded in an attack on their base in Balad, north of Baghdad, a military spokesman said.
Two of the wounded were hospitalized and the other four returned to duty after treatment at a military base.
The soldiers were with the 13th Corps Support Command at Logistical Base Seitz.
Soldiers detained occupants of a vehicle seen fleeing the area, the military said.
The second attack took place in the Iraqi town of Qusayba on the Syrian border, the military said. In addition to the Marine killed, three were wounded.
Names were being withheld until relatives could be notified.
