Two American soldiers were killed and two others wounded Thursday in a battle that also left at least five attackers dead in central Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.

In a brief statement, the U.S. Central Command said that the American soldiers, accompanied by troops of the Afghan National Army, were attacked by “anti-coalition militia” in a village near Tarin Kowt in the southern province of Oruzgan.

The Americans were not identified by name or military unit, pending notification of relatives.
