Blast Causes Crenshaw Power Outage
An explosion in an underground vault Friday knocked out power to about 23,000 homes and businesses in the Crenshaw district.
The blast occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in the 3700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, the Department of Water and Power said. No one was injured, but two circuits were affected. The cause of the failure wasn’t known.
By 9:15 a.m., electrical service had been restored to about 10,000 customers.
At 9 p.m., 800 customers, including the Baldwin Hills Plaza, were still without power, the DWP said. Power was expected to be restored by this morning.
