A Los Angeles judge threw out several of Michael Jackson’s claims in a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, saying he could not claim royalties from the sale of records before 1994.

Superior Court Judge Emilie Elias previously had dismissed two of the pop singer’s claims while allowing Jackson’s claims of breach of contract and accounting against Universal to proceed.

Lawyers for Vivendi Universal’s Universal Music declined to comment, and Jackson’s lawyer was not available.
